Ethos and Values at Fairlop

Fairlop’s overall aim is for all of our pupils to achieve the highest possible standards and fulfil their potential emotionally, academically and physically. We recognise that our pupils need to learn the skills to enable them to articulate themselves. Talk is at the core of our curriculum. This allows the children to be able to apply their knowledge and skills across a high variety of rich learning experiences, which engage, inspire and challenge them.

Our motto, 'Working Together, Achieving Forever' encapsulates our ethos of a community approach to ensuring children have the best education, opportunities and life chances. This is enhanced by effective relationships between stakeholders (pupils, staff, parents, governors, professionals, the local authority and members of our community).

We have adopted Unicef's Rights Respecting Schools Award,  which puts children’s rights at the heart of what we do. This has helped to create a safe and inspiring place to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. The Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.

Using the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as our guide, we are on a journey to become fully Rights Respecting and currently have the Silver: Rights Aware award and are working towards Gold: Rights Respecting.

We promote British Values (defined as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs) through the RRSA approach, our broad curriculum and enrichment activities. This approach also supports our children's spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC).
